Challenge

For a fast-growing company like SpotHero, it’s vital to continually improve the employee experience. Giving is an important aspect of the employee experience, and employees had even formed an internal giving team. The Happy Heroes jumpstarted SpotHero’s community engagement, but members ran up against typical competing business priorities.

“We tried to have a cadence and strategy, but we’re a growing startup and got busy so it was pretty all over the place”, said one Happy Hero. SpotHero wanted to support the Happy Heroes and engage all employees in such an inherently positive aspect of the employee experience.

 

Strategy 

Percent Pledge engaged the Happy Heroes and SpotHero leadership, focusing on three areas: (1) employee-giving technology, (2) local volunteer experiences, and (3) key cause-driven giving campaigns. From just three weekly one-hour co- working sessions, we were able to address each of these areas and diagnose the best way to holistically engage the SpotHero team in giving.

Percent Pledge then got to work. Over a three week period, we custom-configured our giving platform, planned a local volunteer experience, and began vetting of non-profit partners for cause- driven giving campaigns such as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We first introduced Percent Pledge at SpotHero’s new office and employees immediately took to the platform, with many taking the 3 minutes to #MakeThePledge on the spot. One employee even made immediate use of our referral feature, posting her unique link on Slack and adding five teammates to her “Pyramid Scheme for Good” in under an hour! And a week following the platform introduction, we hosted a volunteer experience for SpotHero’s team at Chicago’s Casa Central, in Humboldt Park.
